In recognition of Black History Month, SecretFormula presents a double feature movie night celebrating Black superheroes who blazed a trail not only for their superpowers, but also for representation and inclusion on the big screen.

First: The Meteor Man (1993), Robert Townsend’s pioneering superhero film that was one of the first to feature a Black actor as the superhero lead. Townsend stars as Jefferson Reed, a musician struck by a meteorite that gives him a plethora of superpowers including the powers of flight, telekenesis, healing, the ability to absorb the content of any any book and, best of all, the ability to talk with dogs!!! If you ever wondered what your sweet substitute teacher got up to in his off hours, this is the film for you!

Townsend also directed, wrote and produced this comedic entry into the superhero canon, leading a truly out of this world cast that includes James Earl Jones, Don Cheadle, Marla Gibbs, Eddie Griffin, and Robert Guillaume, amongst many other roles by famous Black musical artists and comedians.

Second: A super secret Black-led superhero film! We won’t announce the 2nd film until we’re about to screen it, but look out for hints in the preshow, contests and intermission!

The Meteor Man Content Warning: guns, mild profanity, drugs (shown but not used)

Second Secret Film Content Warning: violence, fear
